Heavenly Mist, by Gerard Richardson, Favorite of JFK.
The sinking of PT 109 by the Japanese destroyer, The Heavenly Mist, hung in President Kennedys reception room in the White House. JFK had commanded the PT 109 during WWII. This oil now hangs in the JFK Library.
I'm very confused! Capt. Gerald Richardson presented me w/2 large postcard-size/style which he signed & dated 1971, of the PT 109 incident. It is entitled: "The 109", NOT "Heavenly Mist." He gave each of us Hospital Corpsmen 2 copies so the front & back could be displayed; that's what I had done. How could the name have gotten changed?
My wife, Dee and I have been collecting art, beginning when she opened an art gallery after we first married. We enjoy collecting the art of artists which really appeal to us such as Gerard Richardson. Of course, it is very difficult to find much of his work for sale. He did not do a great volume and most of it is in museums or in private collections and not for sale. If anyone has any for sale, please let us know.
